Athleisure Wear: Trend or Lifestyle? #fashionfridays

The first time I was introduced to the athleisure trend, I was less than impressed to say the least. Just another trend started by celebrities with access to too much money and stylists to be dressing crazy. I mean can you blame me? Heels and track pants weren’t exactly created to be a match made in fashion heaven. However, as we’ve seen lately, opposites do complement each other well in the fashion world, ex: florals and stripes or stripes and polka dots. Needless to say, it grew on me.

The athleisure trend involves taking athletic apparel like track pants, workout tights, biker shorts and other work out gear and wearing them in everyday settings. This trend is becoming more of a lifestyle and retailers from Forever21 to Pretty Little Things (with their recent Karl Kani collab) have be eager to catch on. What I love most about this trend is the versatility. I wore this look to work in the day time with a pair of sandals and transformed it in the evening with a pair of heels to attend a fashion networking event.

Perhaps the best thing about this look, aside from it being super comfy, is the price tag. I found these pants for just $5 last year at Forman Mills! The shoes were $19.99 from Rainbow. This trend has definitely proved it has staying power. What are your thoughts on it? Do you see athleisure being just another trend or more of a lifestyle? Also, have a fashion related question?
