I’d first like to preface this post by stating that I am in no way apart of the notorious crew that is known as the Bee Hive. You know, the die hard legion of Beyoncé fans that will come for you, your momma, your third grade teacher if you dare say anything negative about the Queen Bee? Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Beyoncé, honey. I just don’t make a habit of snatching the wigs of any and everyone who dare cometh for Mrs. Carter. There are some cases in which I deem absolutely necessary and this is one of them.
To the surprise of many, Beyoncé performed alongside the Dixie Chicks at The Country Music Awards this week. Together they slayed “Daddy Lessons,” a country tune off of Beyoncé’s Emmy nominated album, Lemonade. I watched the performance and I thought it was great and by the looks of the people jamming in the audience, they thought so too. But of course you can’t please everyone. People were not too happy mainly due to the fact that Beyoncé is not a country artist. Other issues people cited with her performance was the sheer dress she wore, her support of Black Lives Matter which somehow equated that she dislikes law enforcement. There was even talk that the people over at the CMA’s have pulled some of their links that were used to promote the performance as well as some footage from their site.
Here’s what I’ve got to say to these no life having, Twitter thugs:
First of all, there are committees who decide who will perform for these huge award shows. I’m pretty sure Beyoncé didn’t strut her lil’ self down there and demand to be on the schedule. If you want to be mad at anyone, be mad at those folks. With that being said, I’m pretty sure they’d have to know how Beyoncé prefers to dress. They’re lucky she didn’t come through in a sheer leotard. Just sayin’.
As far as Black Lives Matter is concerned, it’s really simple. Black people to continue to die at the hands of white law enforcement officers for no reason at all and to make matters worse, instead of being charged, those same officers are given a slap on the wrist and not to mention paid administrative leave. I’m tired of sounding like a broken record but Black Lives Matter is not to say that other lives don’t matter. It’s saying that our lives matter too!!! Lastly, Beyoncé has made it clear that she is not against law enforcement rather police brutality. There’s a difference! This performance was exactly what this country needs if you ask me; a little unity! Instead of being mad that Beyoncé performed at the Country Music Awards, they need to use their anger to do something productive, like helping the transportation company here in Philly, SEPTA, come to some sort of agreement! They’ve been on strike all week now and it’s been hell trying to get back and forth to work! Anyway, check out the performance below and tell me what you think about all of this nonsense.
